RADLEY O'BRIEN BARRICADED SKY
The incredible slow-burn of Radley O’Brien’s latest track, ‘Barricaded Sky’, is a true force to be reckoned with. Over the course of the six-minute single, we hear his emotive voice accompanied by nothing more than a twinkling piano, before a wash of almost alien, fading notes adds to the texture. By its climax, a thick bass synth has added a gritty aggression to the low end. It’s quite the journey. “This song is about taking mental refuge from the world whether you are conscious of it or not,” he explains. “It's also about getting creatively lonely and dating this author who I fell in love with, named Paul Goodman in quarantine. He died in 1972.” Check out more of Radley O’Brien’s experimental electronic works when you can. -Dan Peeke
